October 2006 - Lainey's Layouts!

Hi I’m Elaine and I have always been interested in arts and crafts since primary school. I started scrapbooking in Oct'05 when a friend (Ringo) introduced me to the idea and I spent a few night researching Irish and UK craft sites and since then I have been totally hooked. I have a background in Marketing and more recently Interior design. I have always loved papercrafts (starting with fancy paper collections!), photography and family history so it seemed liked the perfect hobby to amalgamate the three passions. I'm a SAHM to two little girls and they feature in a lot of my work. I have recently started teaching Scrapbooking on a local basis in Dublin and we meet up once a month which is great fun and everyone learns from each other. My personal style is vintage and distressed but I have started to investigate the clean and simple style (Ali Edwards).   I also adore altered art and ATC’s and have been known to alter anything from pizza boxes to my daughter’s Barbie books!
Project 1 - Eva's Firsts

Materials –
Step 1 – Setting up your papers
Trim the American crafts/floral piece down to width 9’’ x height 8’’.
Place the photo as shown in the LO and using a pencil, lightly trace around the photo. Take a fine scissors, cut around the flowers which border the photo so they will overlap it. (diagram 1). Using  all floral offcuts, cut out various flowers including the incomplete ones as they can be used for decoration.
Place photo down and secure with tape from behind. Stick down the 9x8 floral segment onto rose pink bazzill cardstock. Add ribbon as shown in LO and then add the co-ordinating stripy paper on the LHS (diagram 2) or alternatively use a strip of baby pink bazzill.
Layer up the floral cut outs using a combination of sticking flat down and using foam pads to give 3-D effect. Aim to create a circular effect of flowers around the photo. Using the pink Bazill, punch or cut out three or more tags for your title. Add a brad onto each and decorate with floral cut out flowers. Matt onto green bazzill cardstock using foam pads. Finish of by adding journaling underneath the photo, a blossom and stamping a motif on bazzill for decoration.

Materials:
Two 12x12 plain cardstock – any colour as backing – this will not be seen.
1 sheet 12x12 American Crafts –Austen
1 sheet 12x12 American Crafts- Cleary
1 sheet 12x12 bazill – starmist (blue)
1 sheet 12x12 bazill Bashful (purple)
1 packet Jazzy Baby Girl brads
1 yd/metre of chocolate brown organza ribbon

Directions:
This is a simple style layout inspired by the clean & simple scrapbooking style. It is an easy LO to start with if you are new to scrapbooking. The key to success of simple scrapbooking is in the photo and the journaling. In this class I will demonstrate how to use your PC as a scrapbooking tool. In the above kit you will be able to produce a double layout –so two for the price of one!
Step 1 – Printing your photo’s largeWhen printing out your photo, go to print options are select ‘fit page’ or A4. Alternatively copy photograph into a WORD document, left click on the photo and select the corner arrow and drag outwards until the photo fits the page. Print. Ideally you are trying to achieve a 9x6 photo so a larger photo can be trimmed to fit. A smaller photo should be matted on a 9x6 co-ordinating sheet of bazzill or patterned paper.
Step 2 – Printing your journaling on Bazill cardstock Take your 12x12 sheet of bazill and using an A4 black sheet – trim it to A4 size. Insert into the printer the correct way up. Open up a word document and go to Format Columns and choose 2 columns. Start to type your journaling (approx 100 words) and ensure the type is set on justified. When you are finished typing, print on Bazzill and trim journaling to size .
Step 3 – Setting up the papers.  Start with the LHS Layout A. Place the photo down and mark where it will go(diag 1) Trim the purple cardstock to the left of photo A which will not be seen under the floral paper. Trim Floral paper so that it exactly meets the photo and purple cardstock (approximately trim 12x12 sheet in half). Stick floral paper first (diag 2) then purple cardstock and photo A down onto backing cardstock. Keep all offcuts for layout B.
Step 4-Final Touches Take the journaling piece which is printed on Bazzill and trim so it fits exactly under the photo.  Stick down. Using American crafts paper, cut out various wheels and spiral shapes and arrange as you like, overlapping the papers and photo. Add 3 brads in succession and adhere brown organza ribbon to printed paper to divide up the LO.
Layout B – (Right side)
Take base cardstock and stick down the leftover purple cardstock running horizontally at the top of the LO. Glue down Photo over the cardstock and add the floral paper on the RHS. Again stick down journaling, ribbon, 3 brads and a random selection of cut out wheels and flowers to match layout A.
